How to be Happy

No matter how hard they work, no matter how much they accomplish it never seems to be enough. That is why I have decided to construct a list of suggestions and ideas that may help people find happiness in their lives.
· Make a conscious decision to be happy
Being happy is something that comes from within oneself. It can’t be bought, found packed away in a forgotten cardboard box, or stolen from someone else. It can however be contagious.
· “Stop and smell the roses”
Take some time every day for yourself. We often rush through every day trying to get as much accomplished as possible. In doing this we often pass right over the moments in life that make it worth living. I find it very valuable to stop for a brief moment and appreciate the little things. That could be nature, noticing the kindness of others, personal reflection
· Possessions won’t make you happy
The idea that having a mansion, millions of dollars, and owning every expensive car will make people happy is really foolish. You could have all the money in the world but be completely alone and miserable. I personally wouldn’t want to place my happiness in something that can be lost so easily.
· Be thankful
Sure no one has everything but take some time and realize the good things in your life.
· Know yourself
Don’t try to be someone else. You are unlike anyone else on this planet. You are a unique individual with your own set of strengths and weaknesses. Being confident in who you are as a person will help you become much more stable.
· Live a balanced life
Find a healthy mix between work and play.
· Seek healthy relationships
Surround yourself with people that will respect you and treat you fairly and do the same for them.
· Improve yourself
We all have qualities about ourselves that we would like to improve. That the initiative and make those improvements. Just remember not to overdo it. It can feel great to improve yourself but keep in mind that you are still very special just the way you are right now.
· Take care of your body
Getting enough sleep and eating nutritious foods can help us feel younger, more energetic and keep us from getting sick.
· Find a hobby
Hiking, golf, swimming, kayaking, yoga, reading, knitting, fixing cars, building computers, watching movies, playing an instrument… It may take a while to find something that you truly enjoy but the search itself is often a fun one.
· Help others
Helping others in need can be very rewarding. Giving money is great but the personal touch of volunteering can be an amazing and life changing experience.
· Seek outside help
If no matter how hard you try you still can’t seem to be happy why not asks someone to help you? This could be in the form of a trusted friend or a hired councilor. Some people can have hesitation about going to see a therapist because of their preconceptions. We hire people to fix our cars, make our clothing, and cook our food. Why not hire someone to help us be happy? I think we owe it to ourselves.

I don’t think I can contribute much to this list. You’ve spelled everything out. Phenomenal post—probably my favorite of yours so far! This post is as close to perfect as it gets.
